The idea of going “green”, is really heating across major companies. You can’t go through a commercial break on TV, without seeing an ad about how some company is becoming greener. It looks like Apple wants to join in on the revolution, and it looks to start with the next release of the Macbook series.

The major updates for the Macbook line are being reported by numerous sites across the web. It looks like the notebook will be receiving significant physical upgrades. The Macbook will be gettin an aluminum redesign, taking inspiration from the iMac and Macbook Air models. It’s being reported that the large track-pad used for the Macbook Air, will be seen on the Macbook, Pro line.

The switch to aluminum is the major advancement in Apple’s “green” evolution. Aluminum is an easily recyclable material. Also, with the Macbook switching to aluminum, it will be a more cohesive look along with Apple’s other hardware series.

Walt Mossberg is a very respectable Wall Street Journal Columnist. He is respected so much that when he drops information about future products, or information, even the most skeptical ears perk up. So all of you iPhone enthusiasts should keep reading as it looks like Mossberg believes the 3G iPhone to be released within 60 days.

The information came way by Beet.tv. The site held a conference in Washington D.C, where Mossberg spoke about the need of expanding our 3G horizons in the US. It was during this speech that Mossberg dropped the news about the 3G iPhone coming our way soon. Only time will tell if the information turns out to be true or false.

New York City’s Logo Too Much Like Apple’s

The Big Apple, which to most is known to most as New York City, has a pending lawsuit from the other big “Apple”. The lawsuit was filed back in September but has just now come to light. The lawsuit against NYC, is for their use of an apple, for the GreenNYC campaign. The campaign that NYC is launching to improve environmental awareness in the city.

So what’s Apple’s problem with GreenNYC using an apple for a logo? Well Apple believes that GreenNYC’s logo is too similar to the logo that Apple uses to trademark its’ products. They believe that once GreenNYC starts releasing logo blazoned merchandise, it will confuse consumers with the well known Apple logo.

From looking at both of the logos, I really don’t seen Apple’s case here. While the logos both resemble apples, NYCGreen’s apple is green and is mostly just the outline of an apple. Apple’s logo is fully colored in, and has a glossy futuristic style to it. If anything Apple should be helping to endorse this NYC event, as it’s about environmental awareness. If there’s anything that’s catching on in popularity, it’s environmental news. From a business standpoint, I think Apple should embrace GreenNYC, not distance itself from it.

What’s your opinion on the logo dispute? Feel free to leave a comment below.

Coming Down The Stretch, iTunes Is #1

As music downloads become more popular, companies are scrambling to cash in on the excitement. Wal-Mart and iTunes have been going toe-to-toe like a re-iteration of Ali vs. Frasier. Up until earlier this year, Wal-Mart had been the Ali, always staying ahead and claiming the #1 spot.

According to a NPD report, it looks as though this could be shifting. iTunes looks to be floating like a butterfly, as a report in January puts them atop the chart with a 19% stake in music sold. Wal-Mart followed in second place with 15%, and Best Buy in third with 13%. While this report only shows iTunes up in the month of January, they are predicting an outright change sometime in 08.

Mac’s New Ads

Here are a couple of new Mac ads. The first one is an interesting take on Yoga, which might be a new way PC users vent frustration over Vista. The second is a spoof about a therapy session, where PC learns that it’s “not his fault”.
