iPhone’s Top Web Apps

Now that the iPhone has been opened to third party apps, we’ve seen a flood of them hit the market. Some have been great, and some not so great. Today, I figured we’d take a look at some of the apps that are now available, and which ones are worth your time.

MoboVivo
- Streaming television has been a hot commodity as of late. Not to be outdone by it’s larger counterparts, the iPhone has an app that will allow users to stream full episodes to their handsets. You can also download the episodes as well.

Astro - Whoever said a cell phone didn’t serve a purpose while camping? With Astro, you’ll have access to information about the skies above. If you happen to find a space where the sky can be fully enjoyed, Astro will help you track the sky.

Associative Japanese Kanji Learning - You can effectively learn Japanese Kanji using associative and interactive learning methods using Kanji dictionary items, stroke order diagram animations, matching quizzes and so on.

Mac’s Two New Ads

It doesn’t really seem all that long since Apple released their previous commercials. The previous two ads that were released before were based on yoga humor and psychiatric help for Windows. They decided to take a more “in your face” route with these two, with Window’s creating a country music song. And Window’s sporting and old school varsity jacket, and a cheer squad. iPhone Users To Get Local-Based Content?

MacRumors, is reporting some patent news today. It seems that Apple is expanding on a previous patent for bringing local based content to iPhone users.

In the old patent, Apple would make is possible for users to place orders at local stores. It would require the user to scroll through a menu on their iPhone, and press a button, and VOILA your order would be ready.

It looks like Apple is wanting to expand on that idea, by offering even more content. The new patent application, would include information on local events, such as movies, concerts, and local restaurants. The idea of purchasing movie tickets, and food orders is also a possibility.

Local-based content is a beast, that if tamed can really add a special touch to information devices. If and when Apple does release this, it will be yet another breakthrough that makes Apple products stand above the rest.

Largest US Apple Store Opens This Week

I always hate hearing about launch events, and openings, because they are always in places I can’t attend. Well the newest Apple Store launch can just add to the tally of disappointments.

Ok, I can’t sound too pessimistic, as this store sounds like it will be really cool. The store will open at Boylston Street, in Boston at 6 P.M this Friday. 6 P.M sounds like a pretty odd time to open a store, but if they’re trying to get a solid crowd, 6 is alright.

I Guess Apple Was Really Trying To Appeal To Boston With Their Own “Green Monster”

Apple will be giving away free T-shirts and special giveaways at the event. There will also be free workshops, along with musical performances. All of Apple’s products will be available to try out. Here is a calendar of events for the new store.

Again, I’m jealous that I won’t be attending a cool launch event. But hopefully someone will post a YouTube video of the happenings, so I’ll atleast get to see what it looks like on the inside.

Steve Jobs To Give Keynote Speech At WWDC

It has been pretty much officially confirmed that Steve Jobs will giving a keynote address at the WWDC. Fortune, is reporting that Apple public relations has said that Steve Jobs will be speaking at the WWDC.

It’s not a surprise that Jobs will be showing up to provide an address to public. What is widely being speculated upon, is what he’s going to be unveiling. Most of the people who are in the know believe it will be the launching of the 3G iPhones. Proof being that the first generation iPhones are reporting to be unavailable. Usually when something like this happens, a company is trying to clear our inventory for a new product launch.

MacRumors has released another theory as to what will occur at the WWDC. SwitchToaMac released a rumor that the 3G iPhone would be releasing early in May. MacRumors blew it off as just speculation, but recent happenings show that this might be true after all. The inventory of iPhones have been dwindling at such a rate, that they’re becoming nearly impossible to find. Due to such a shortage, this had let some to believe that they will be releasing the new model iPhone earlier than anticipated. This would leave the announcement at the WWDC to be something else entirely.

As of now, no one truly knows what’s going to happens. But like always, it’s fun to speculate and anticipate what will happen. Kind of makes the waiting a little bit easier. If you want to keep track of how long before the WWDC takes off, you can download a widget giving a countdown until the conference.

NBC Streaming Shows To iPod Touch/iPhone

People who are fans of shows like The Office, 30 Rock, and My Name Is Earl have a new way to view their shows. The shows are now available to view on an iPod Touch or iPhone.

NBC Logo

One aspect of the videos that are better than those viewed on a desktop, is that they are commercial free. So far the system has been giving many iPhone and Touch users problems with clarity. Sometimes the shows can even locked up the devices. The shows are distributed in an unprotected Quicktime format.

This move seems odd for NBC. As the Apple and NBC have had a rocky relationship in the past. NBC has pulled videos from iTunes before, because of Apple’s supposed stubbornness on prices. Although, as great as Apple is doing, it would be silly to let squabbles in the past keep you from investing in technology that’s being adopted by millions.
