One of the big negative factors in purchasing music online, is that the catalogs aren’t nearly as hefty as what you find at a retail store. While the ease of downloading, and not having to get up is a huge plus, if the online store doesn’t have what you want then what’s the point?
Things are looking up as one of the most popular bands of all time look to be given the iTunes treatment. If the title of the article didn’t give it away, that band is The Beatles. Up until now you could only download each band member’s solo work. There are so many licensing issues with the Beatles’ music that it looked like Beatles downloads were never going to happen.
It’s looking like the deal should wrap up by the end of the year. With all the licensing issues like, “who owns what song or album”, it will take alittle longer than most downloads to be ready.
The original report was given by a British tabloid, that McCartney gave the “thumbs-up” for the project to begin. Royalties from the downloads would go to McCartney, Starr, and the families of the late Harrison, and Lennon.
