I know everyone loves to hear the word “free”, so I’m happy to report on some freebies from Apple. The only kicker is that you have to be a college student to cash-in on Apple’s newest give-away.

Apple’s new deal, is that if you’re a student and you buy a new iMac or Macbook, you will receive a new iPod Touch for free. Of course there is some hassle surrounding the deal, as you won’t get an iPod for free upfront. You will have to purchase the iPod and wait for your money to come back to you in rebate form.

Still, starting off the fall semester of college with a brand new Mac, and iPod, is what I call ‘kicking it off right’.

Steve Jobs will pump the reality distortion field up to 11 after the Labor Day weekend.

Wednesday of next week will be an exciting one for the Mac faithful. Invitations to various media types began hitting inboxes yesterday. AppleInsider has theirs on display:

The invites, which arrived by e-mail, depict an enlarged CoverFlow interface with the caption, “The beat goes on.” The wording appears to have been borrowed from the trailing line of The Beatles’ final press release, which was issued by Apple Records on April 10, 1970, following the band’s split.

The consensus among the Applesphere blogs has the catalog from the world’s most famed boy band (yes I said it) The Beatles finally arriving on iTunes, years after the band’s most ardent fans have ripped Beatles albums to their iPods. New iTunes software and probably some iPods should be on tap too.

Via AppleInsider, who have to be the most dedicated Beatles fans in the Applesphere

UPDATE: Silicon Alley Insider says the world’s most famed boy band won’t be one more thing from Steve next week.
