Mac Pros Emitting Toxic Fumes?

A report out of French Liberation claims that Mac Pros emit a foul stench, at times. The claim also states that the odor is toxic.

The article states that the toxic material is, benzene. It has been found that prolong exposures to benzene can up the risks for certain disease, and cancer.

Apple has countered the claim by saying there has been no substantial proof that there is anything toxic in the Mac Pros. An Apple exec told this to MacWorld, “We have not found anything that supports this claim, but continue to investigate it for the customer,”.

Who knows where this story is going to end up.

Apple Not Safe From Economic Collapse

Apple’s shares fell 18% according to the Wall Street Journal. With the weakening economy, the effects are starting to be seen even more in the electronic sector.

Apple’s stock decreased $22.98, to its current state of $105.26. Morgan Stanley credits this dive, mostly due to the state of how people feel towards electronics. With PCs being at the low end of the market, they are being considered the better deal compared to Mac’s prices.

Apple Sets Up Exhange Program For 3G Power Adapters

Apple is usually about product quality, but is fessing up to a problem with some 3G power adapters. It seems as though there have been cases where the prongs have broken off in people’s power outlets. Apple has setup a recall service, so people can send in for new adapters. Here’s the official statement from Apple:

Today Apple announced the Apple Ultracompact USB Power Adapter Exchange program.

Apple has determined that under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter’s metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock. We have received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported.

The ultracompact USB power adapters were supplied with every iPhone 3G sold in the following countries, and may also have been purchased separately as an accessory:

US
Japan
Canada
Mexico
Several Latin American countries (click here for a detailed list of countries)

Note: Apple USB power adapters supplied with original iPhones or supplied with iPhone 3G units sold in other countries are not affected.

Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and therefore we have voluntarily decided to exchange every ultracompact power adapter for a new, redesigned adapter, free of charge.

EFi-X Gives PC Owners Mac OS X

Well, when it rains it pours as some like to say. Coming off the recent lawsuit of Psystar for selling Mac OS X powered machines, is a company that’s doing close to the same thing. EFi-X instead sells add-ons so that existing PCs can run Mac OS X.

Here’s an excerpt from EFi-X’s site:

“Your voice has been heard,
You know about it, you have had arguments about it, you wondered about it.

Here it is, at last.

With EFI-X™ you will be able to enter a new computing dimension.
Installation of Apple® and Microsoft® operating systems, as well as open source ones, is now possible. And it is not only possible, it is also straightforward!

EFI-X™ is not for everyone. It is not for who wants to save money, at all. It is for enthusiasts that put expandability and extreme performances before anything else in their computing needs. We heard those voices, and we answered.”

If you’re interested, here’s the spec list for compatible PC systems. For those of us who have a Mac, we can continue to enjoy Mac OS X without adding anything to our motherboard :).
