Jump Between Tabs While Surfing In Safari

One of the first thing I do on all Macs (my own or the ones I’m working on) is enable tabbed browsing in Safari. It’s a quick change and makes me so much more productive while using the internet.

Just the other day, I realized that as soon as you enable the tabbed browsing, there is a new keyboard shortcut in your “Window” menu of Safari. It’s a keyboard shortcut to jump between tabs. By default it is “Command+}” to go to the next tab and “Command+{” to go the previous tab. That sure makes it easy to change between tabs while using the internet.

Personally, I made it one step better. I changed it to “Command+Option+Right Arrow” and “Left Arrow”. Now I’m jumping back and forth with a very natural keyboard combination. Hopefully this will help some of you.

I’ve always used Command-Shift-Right Arrow and Command-Shift-Left Arrow to cycle through all my tabs. This isn’t shown as a shortcut in the menu item, but it still works with no modification needed.

And don’t forget Command-` to cycle through you open windows.

And how did you do it???

    Thank you!!

I have been using ‘Shift+Command+Left-Arrow’ and ‘Shift+Command+Right-Arrow’ to traverse tabbed windows without even noticing the Window menu showing the ‘Command+}’ and ‘Command+{‘ shortcuts. Both sets of shortcutswork. I also use ‘Command+Left-Arrow’ and ‘Command+Right-Arrow’ to go backand forth through browsed pages in the current tab. I do have the Sogudi Input Manager installed but I don’t believe it affects keyboard shortcuts.
I love tabs and keyboard shortcuts!

Um, you do know that shift-cmd-right/left is supported by default, right?

This requires two hand though, I prefer using just my just right hand’s thumb & pinky for cmd-shift, and toggling between {/} with my two middle fingers.

Very nice find! I have started using this keyboard shortcut and I think it is amazing. Great work!

One of the main reasons I use Camino is because of this – the Safari shortcuts either require three keys (which is too complicated!) or two keys but with one of them buried in the middle of the keyboard. Camino I’ve been able to change so that ctrl+left/right does the same thing, which is almost as natural as Firefox’s ctrl+PgUp/PgDn
