Great idea, Brian… IF consumers had options. Unfortunately, many customers don’t “choose” their ISP at all — it’s simply the only option. The Feds protect screwed-up, greedy telecoms just like they protect screwed-up, greedy airlines. They don’t have to make a good product. They don’t have to be competitive. They can file for bancruptcy every year for 50 years and somehow still stay in business. It’s ridiculous.

Nickbob, I agree with you, this is a bad idea just like the alernative that benefits the ISP’s is. I’m just saying that it can be equally ridiculous on both sides so it benefits both to meet in the middle.

Bad idea. Suppose your local ISP decided it didn’t It want to pay that much ($X). It’s a monopoly! It doesn’t have to care about customer service! In the northeast cable networks are fighting over exclusive content, and the customers get screwed because they can’t switch. As long as there is no free market, net neutrality is a must.
