iPhone mania means the prospect of leaving Apple Stores unstaffed the night before the iPhone’s launch had some in Cupertino feeling anxious about their new gadget.

Apple Stores with the physical space to allow for a couple of staffers to doze under pictures of the iPhone will play host to impromptu slumber parties tonight:

At most average size stores, the slumber party will reportedly consist of just two employees — a store manager and one other staffer willing to bank some extra hours while snoozing.

As of publication time, retail management had not conveyed to the employees why they were being asked to spend the night inside the stores, though some speculated it’s a security measure due to expectations of enhanced activity outside the locations during the early morning hours.

I imagine a lot of people dream about sleeping in an Apple Store while getting paid for it. Here’s hoping Steve Jobs will spring for cookies and milk for those campers.
