Though the palpable hype for the iPhone clung to everyone in the US like summer humidity in late June, our northern friends won’t be able to (easily) find an iPhone right away.
The US has them. Europe and Asia will get them. But Canada? They have an idea of who will carry it (Rogers) but as for when, well, that’s anyone’s guess:

Q. Are you going to offer the Iphone? When will it be available?
A. “Yes we will be. Supposed to have been out already, but .. please hold”, … … … … … … … … (music) … … … … … … … … … … … (new song) … … … .. … … … … … … … … (do you rember …) … … … … … … … … .. … … … … “Hello Sir, not exactly sure of the sale date. Giving estimates of six months, they (managers) are saying next month, but within six months” ”While the preceding quote is the exact representation of how much is currently known about iPhone’s future in Canada, some brave souls actually crossed the border down South to get the coveted device…
In six months, Apple might have a newer version of the iPhone available. Canadian iPhone fans may end up with a better launch product than US purchasers received on June 27th.

However, it’s better then not having that the iPhone at all. I don’t mind waiting 8 months, but what I’m worrried about is the rates for data.

With the recent iPod tax passed in Canada, I think Apple wants to give them a taste of their own medicine. Free of charge!
