Will Snow Leopard Bring The End To PowerPC Support?

For you PowerPC lovers out there, the latest news of Apple’s iLife and rumors of Snow Leopard have probably left you frowning. It is being reported by Arstechnica that a significant portion of iLife, specifically Garage Band will only be compatible with Intel machines.

This news follows the rumor that Snow Leopard, Apple’s next OS will only support Intel. This of course is still just a rumor, as many details about Snow Leopard are still not known.

So, what do you think about the possibility of Macs going exclusively to Intel? Are you a fan of PowerPC, and will miss it if it’s dropped?

It’s not quite as bad as it sounds — only Garage Band’s new Learn-to-Play feature is Intel-only. For now! :)

Doesn’t bother me a whole lot. Our PowerPC-based mini is just a file/song server and hasn’t even been updated to Leopard yet.

My G5 works great, with 4 GB Ram, and a large hard drive. It’s my main computer. I have a MacBook Pro that I love (1st gen) and I am typing this with my PowerBook G4 – If Snow Leopard is Intel only, it will NOT make me buy a MacPro, and I will not buy it to install on any of my machines.

Apple makes great products with long life spans. For them to make an Intel only OS, is just not “different”, it’s too MS like for my taste.
